Who am I?
I am a trained historian turned community activist who lives on Chicago's North Shore. But hey, don't jump to any conclusions: I am not an heiress or a bored member of the country club set. I spent the past two and a half years of my life fighting to protect property owners' rights against a radical group bent on making my town into the Williamsburg of suburban Chicago.
In Kenilworth and Winnetka the voters fought back big time in November, overwhelmingly rejecting a proposal to make all of Kenilworth a National Register District and telling the Winnetka Village Board that they must get popular approval before making major changes to historic preservation laws there.
What did I learn from all this? Trust voters. People are busy and they don't always pay attention, but elections focus the mind like nothing else. TRUST THE PEOPLE, not the pols.
Grass Roots Activism Needed Now on State Level
Job 1 right now is to make sure Blagojevich is removed from office as soon as possible.
Job 2 is to make sure Obama's senate seat is selected by the people in a fair and open special election.
If you agree with me so far, let's put our heads together and figure out how to make it happen.
